What my money goes towards

We understand it can be unclear what a union actually does and if it is worth it financially. Hopefully we have helped you become more aware of where your money goes. Remember your membership pays for BECTU training sessions, a core team at BECTU negotiating with our employers, member benefits as well newsletters/updates and website costs to keep members informed.

Animation and VFX Committee members volunteer to represent you so all the funds are redirected through the Union.

Membership Benefits

  • Comprehensive legal services (employment related) including; breach of contract, discrimination, unfair dismissal, equal pay, working time, monies owed, and redundancy. Advice and, where appropriate, full representation in legal proceedings

  • Tax consultancy & financial services (particularly helpful for freelancers)

  • Discounted BFI membership

  • Discounts off Apple products

  • Guaranteed price promises on services including gym membership, airport parking, car insurance, books and tax returns

  • Email updates on recognition campaigns, career workshops, etc

  • A monthly newsletter

Will my employer find out?

BECTU keeps its membership list completely confidential and doesn’t share that list with anyone. The only people who’ll know you’re a member outside of BECTU are the people you choose to tell yourself.

We aim to help both artist and studio alike.

Let’s be better today, not tomorrow.
